Mario Run Makes its way to Android

Gaming has advanced a lot since the early days in every aspect. The detailing, the gameplay, the graphics; all have progressed. But no matter what, every gamer still swears by the classics: The games they grew up playing. One such game is Mario.

Super Mario Run CoverSuper Mario Run, the newest installment of the franchisee, basically sells you that nostalgia. It gets you back to the same old rescue operation of Princess Peach from the evil Bowser, while defeating his minion Koopas along the way, reimagined for smartphones.

Gameplay:

Super Mario Run GameplayThe game mechanics are pretty simple: Mario runs automatically. All you are supposed to do is tap the screen to make him jump. There are a variety of actions that take place when you are jumping, but at the basic, its still a tap. And that is what Nintendo intended for, as you see, "Playable with one Hand" mentioned in the instructions themselves. You collect coins and mushrooms(yay!) and finally take down Bowser's flag at the end of each level.

You have two modes: Tour and Rally. Tour is your main story adventure, while in Rally you are supposed to race against other players to gain toads. These number of toads you have decides your level, and these toads help you build your kingdom, something which sounds eerily like clash of clans.

The verdict:

"Don't fix it if it ain't broken." The game lives up to this philosophy by bringing out the  tried and tested Mario story (soundtrack too!). It is definitely fun to play. The problem is, only the first 3 levels are free to play. The fourth level is unlockable via some in game tasks. Then, have to pay a sum of 800 rupees to unlock all levels. Yes, people love Mario. But do they love him enough to shell out that amount? We shall see.
