Intel i9 could finally make its debut!

i7 has been Intel's flagship processor for the past decade with i3, i5 and i7 being the low, medium and high priced models respectively but if reports are to believed, Intel could launch the next powerful lineup of i9 processors- Kaby Lake-X and SkyLake-X. This appeared first on AnandTech’s board. This provides an insight into the SkyLake-X, or for that matter an entire lineup of i9 processors.

The SkyLake-X family, would be the first to release. They will be high-end desktop chips with models ranging from the Core i9-7800X processor with 6 CPU cores to the Core i9-7920X with 12 CPU cores. They are 140W chips with support for dual channel DDR4-2666 memory and support for hyper-threading. Kaby-Lake chips are low-powered (112W) i9 chips, also set to launch around the same time.
The series will come with Turbo Boost 3.0, which will allow the the higher end chips to go North of 4 GHz!

Something new in the market. Sounds exciting! The only issue I feel that as always, the high-end Intel CPUs cost a fortune. It is to be seen how it competes with Intel's own i7 and if it would be worth the cost. With the new AMD Ryzen R9 chips also set to be launched in the same time frame (more on that later),  let's see who wins the battle of processors, the prowess of Intel or the price point of Ryzen. Take a look at the leaks.
