Will Xiaomi and Google Join Hands to bring Android One back to life?

The Android One Project By Google is an ambitious attempt to universalize low cost smartphones running Android.

Xiaomi has seen a lot progress in very little time. As soon as the company debuted in India with the Mi 3, it became a powerful player and went on to recreate its original success time and again. Today, Xiaomi is known throughout as a brand which offers top of the line specs, good design and build quality at highly affordable prices.

Guess who else had a similar vision?

Google.

Google, with its Android One project, intended to flood the market with cheap Android devices for everybody. This was supposed to be the turning point for emerging markets where complete smartphone adoption is still far off. But, the project didn't float, and people didn't go for these phones. The reason? Unreliable hardware.

A news report coming from Indonesian Website Krispitech claims that Google's latest Android One dream may be realized by Xiaomi, and both companies are working on it. While, we are not certain that this report is correct, as no company has announced anything of this sort, it may be just the reboot that Android One requires.

Xiaomi is often touted as the king of budget hardware. The only issue which people have with it, is the somewhat bloated and buggy software. So if Xiaomi was to release a Vanilla Android One Phone, that would be a combination that would dominate the budget sector and would probably let Xiaomi further consolidate its grip on markets like India.


Krispitech claims that the phone will be very similar to the Mi 5X, which was recently launched in China(with Mi's own flavour of Android, the MiUI). The phone has a 5.5 inch full HD display and 4 GB of RAM powered by Snapdragon 625 and a 3080mAH battery. The phone will probably be rebranded as Xiaomi A1 (like the Micromax's Android One phone Canvas A1)

While we can only wait till the rumors are confirmed, it is exciting to think of such a phone, which offers reliable Hardware, hassle free Android Updates at
a price that doesn't dent our wallets.
