TFTF #1: A Cicret best kept.
As a new year finally sets in , we are again left to wonder what the future holds for us. Will technology once again pace on the steep ascent which it had, as few years back? Or will the curve flat-line, as the indications predict?
With optimism, we at Capesaber have come up with a new series of articles,
Tech from the Future. We explore promising technologies which have been launched, or are on the verge of being launched. So revel in the mind numbing compilation which will surely leave you wanting more from your life.
Here goes nothing:
With wearable technology gathering mass popularity as it goes ahead in terms of technology and functionality, it is still limited by constraints. While being good enough for the occasional notifications, playback and activity tracking, it in no ways is a replacement to my phone. This is where the Cicret sets itself apart.
The Cicret Bracelet claims to mimics all the functionality of your phone, by bringing it to your hand via a hologram. This is achieved by the Pico Projector in the water resistant bracelet, complete with touch functionality, courtesy eight proximity sensors.
The good: We can list down its features, but its better you see them for yourself.
Check out the video on their official page:
The fancy company was started in 2014 by some ex-Apple, Dell and Infocus employees. The crowd-sourced project required 500,000$ to become a reality, and it has overshot to 128% of its goal as of date.
Pre-orders are to start this month, with the first batch shipping early 2017.
The not so good: While the idea sure grabs our eyeballs, there are a lot of doubts raised on their claims. The bracelet is supposed to work with Android, iOS and even the normally left out Windows phone ecosystems, but no indication of the standard to be used is provided. As of date, only the Android video presented above is available. And even that is a concept video.
The claims are almost too good to be true, which makes a little wary. The weekly updates that the company has given so far don’t inspire confidence about the release date. After all, we’ve seen vaporware, before, and this is what it looks like.
