Xiaomi to make its own processors!
Xiaomi has a diverse portfolio. From Mobiles to Air Purifies to USB fans, to company seems to have done it all. Now, adding a feather to their hat, Mi is soon expected to launch its own processor called Pinecone.
Chinese publication, Anzhuo reports that the company is developing two SoC(System on Chip, just a really fancy word for the IC), the V670, and V970. The V670 is the lower ended version and is expected to be the one powering the upcoming Mi 5c.
The Pinecone V670 is tipped to feature eight Cortex A53
processors with four high performance cores and four
power efficient cores. It is also expected to come with a 800MHz Mali T860 MP4
graphics. The SoC is said be 28 nanometers.
The Pinecone V970 is tipped to be the high-end chip and should launch in the fourth quarter of the year. The processor is expected to use four Cortex A73 and four Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.7GHz and 2Ghz respectively. It may have 900MHz Mali G71 MP12 graphics. The report notes that the SoC is 10nm , and might be used in the Mi 6s and the Mi Note 3.
This is a welcome move. The company was struggling under the burden of managing between the Mediatek processors in most phones in China, which had to be remodeled into Snapdragon phones in India. Now, with their own processor in place, things are set to change.
