How to prevent your phone from disturbing your sleep cycle?
Science has proven that the exposure to the display of a phone or laptop screen, especially a few hours before bedtime, affects our sleep cycle.
The cause of is the photoreceptor in your eyes, called Melanopsin. This receptor is sensitive to a narrow band of blue light in the 460-480nm range which may suppress Melatonin production - a hormone responsible for your healthy sleep-wake cycles.
To avoid this, it is advised that during the above mentioned time, a blue light filter should be used on the display. This greatly reduces the effect on the Melanospin.
While there are many such filters available, the one I personally liked was Twilight.
Developed by Urbandroid team, Twilight gives you the ability to control the amount of filter your display receives. It has been tested and shown to be safe to use on AMOLED screens(which have a chance of frying by such arbitrary variations).
The best feature about twilight is the automatic transition of the display intensity based on the time of the day. Meaning, while the display will be balanced in the morning, the filter would kick in by evening and then reset the next morning. Honestly, I don't expect myself to physically set the filter every time I set out to use my phone and so this feature really makes it usable for me.
So go ahead and give this app a try(download link here). If you are feeling generous and want to grab a few more features, the Pro version of the app is available for a meager sum of Rs. 10 as of now(link here).
