The Future of Android
As the Android O is near its launch, the leaks and expectations are bound to amuse you. There are several things that are perhaps too good to be true. Things already available, like the Lineage OS are not even half the battle won if we want the Ideal Android. People may agree or disagree with the following but there are certainly things that definitely need a change ASAP.
Stock applications: We are tired of having apps that take up space uselessly. I'm more of an Opera Guy, and having Chrome is unnecessary. Having Google Inbox and GMail at the same time is not required. I should have an option to say goodbye to stock apps or not to have them pre-installed at all. To be honest, only Google app should be pre-installed and the rest should be left to the user. Also, this gives Google an unfair monopoly over competitors, which obviously do not have their apps pre-installed.
Customization : Smartphone manufacturers make their own changes to the stock Android, but to the user, stock Android is relatively less customizable. The addition of Google Wallpapers and smart widgets or myAndroid taste test are trying to achieve customizable ROMs that Cyanogen and Lineage OS stand for. These are expected to be incorporated directly as further Android versions follow.
An all powerful Google app: Android is turning smarter day by day and Google is leaving no stone unturned in doing so. As the Instant Apps properly establish itself, there will be no need of a PlayStore nor any of the other apps. Only a single Google app performing everything you need- Book a cab, order a pizza, check the maps, etc. This will bring us to a deterministic mobile environment where, we don't have to decide what option to use to achieve what we intend to do.
Google knows when to adapt and how. If Android fills up the holes it has, that will make root access redundant, and Android will then become the ultimate OS.
