TFTF#4 Daedulus, the real life Iron Man suit.
Meet British inventor, Richard Browning, who has created an
exoskeleton capable of giving humans something that they always wanted, flight.
Daedalus is a real life Iron Man suit, powered by propellers on
your arms and legs. It is to be worn like a backpack, and is can give you 10
minutes of flight in a single fueling. It relies on your upper body strength
for suspension, and maneuvering, keeping the human very much into the
equation.
Browning continues the legacy of his father, Michael, who left his job to become an inventor, but
due to repeated failures and losses, had killed himself when Richard was just
15. From then, he has built himself up to this point where he can work on high
headed projects like this one.
The suit took him around a short 13 months to make, with work
having started in February 2016.
The suit is expected to be commercially available soon, but at a
price of about a whopping 250000 pounds!
When comparisons between his suit and Tony Starks’ were drawn, he
is reported to have said, “But this is a real world aeronautical innovation.”
It’s not perfect though. Browning claims that the suit can go to
great heights and at about 100km/hr, but the most he has done till now, is
running speed a few feet above the ground. It is expected that this will change
in later stages of testing.
If this project reaches people, it can potentially start a new
chapter in civil aviation, and governments will be on their toes trying to
frame laws for such a thing.
